On Harassment
“So they got tired of us being down there [Ludlow depot], and they lined us up along that concrete building they have got there, with our heels up against the building. We were there from a quarter till 4 until about 7, and they would run past us every once in a while and make all kinds of insinuations. There was one of the boys who kind of looked around the corner – they brought him in a few more, and this fellow happened to see him- he says, 'God damn you, get up to the other end,' he says, ' You get up to the other end.' He says, 'If you look around the corner now, ' he says, 'I’ll tell you; guard No. 1, you take care of this corner, and guard No. 2 you take care of this.' He says, 'If them fellows looks around the corner, just shoot their heart out. No; I wasn’t frightened. The other boys were frightened. I thought they meant it.”
