Baseball had a large presence in the Ludlow strikers' colony. The union and the strikers marked holidays with the playing of baseball games and held regular games. The union's support of the sport offered a way for strikers and their families to come together and develop a sense of community. By sharing similar activities and experiences, the strikers developed common interests and a shared identity. Strikers built a field complete with bleachers south of the Ludlow strikers' colony.
