Aug. 11, 2011—More than 500 graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Denver are expected to cross the stage Friday at the annual summer commencement exercises.
Delivering the commencement address will be DU English professor William Zaranka, who retired this year after the spring quarter. Professor Zaranka's time on campus spans parts of six decades.
He arrived at DU as a student in 1969 and left to teach at the University of Pennsylvania after earning his doctorate in 1974. He returned in 1978 to chair the creative writing program, and has been on campus since, serving a dean and then provost, a position he held until he returned to the classroom in 2001.
