Oct. 17, 2011—Daily Beast-Newsweek columnist Peter Beinart comes to the University of Denver (DU) Tuesday, November 8, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the invitation of the Institute for the Study of Israel in the Middle East (ISIME), part of DU's Josef Korbel School of International Studies.
Beinart's talk is on "Israel: Have We Lost that Loving Feeling, and Can We Get It Back?" Apart from writing on politics for The Daily Beast, Beinart may be best known for his 2010 essay in The New York Review of Books, "The Failure of the American Jewish Establishment."
Korbel School Dean Christopher Hill will introduce Beinart.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Peter to DU and give our students the chance to ask pressing questions of one of today's popular and provocative columnists," says ISIME Interim Executive Director Dyana Furmansky. "Beinart's presentation on Israel is relevant to ISIME and our students as we frame new ways to study issues concerning economic development and entrepreneurship in the region."
Beinart is an associate professor of journalism and political science at the City University of New York and the author of "The Good Fight: Why Liberals—And Only Liberals—Can Win the War on Terror and Make America Great Again," published in 2006. His newest book "The Crisis of Liberal Zionism," expands on his New York Review of Books essay and will be released in the spring of 2012.
Beinart will speak in Sturm Hall's Davis Auditorium, Room 248. This free event is open to the Denver community, but seating is limited and online reservations are required. To make reservations go to http://www.isime.org/ by November 3.
