University of Denver announces blue ribbon panel on immigration
Ritter, Hickenlooper, Owens and Lamm to speak to distinguished panel members
University of Denver Chancellor Robert Coombe will announce at a news conference at the Colorado State Capitol Friday that the University’s signature Strategic Issues Program (SIP) will study immigration during the upcoming year.
The chancellor has appointed a nonpartisan panel of accomplished citizens to study the issue, including Pete Coors, chairman and chief executive officer of Coors Brewing Co.; Don Ament, former Colorado secretary of Agriculture; and Kay Norton, president of the University of Northern Colorado.
This distinguished panel will hear multiple perspectives from local and national immigration policy experts, including Gov. Bill Ritter, Mayor John Hickenlooper and former governors Bill Owens and Dick Lamm.
Past SIP panels have made policy recommendations on the state’s economy, water supply and constitution. Recommendations from the constitution panel led to proposed ballot issues. At a Capitol news conference Friday, SIP Director Jim Griesemer will outline DU’s plan for tackling this important local and national issue.
