Karen Dowd to head Suitts Center for Career Services at the Daniels College of Business
DENVER—Dr. Karen Dowd will join the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver as executive director of the Suitts Center for Career Services on Feb. 2.
Previously, Dowd was the senior director of MBA Career Development at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. At Mendoza, she directed a staff of ten and oversaw the design and delivery of career services and employer relations strategies and activities for MBA and Executive MBA students, alumni and recruiters.
“Karen’s background will provide us with a wealth of experience to help our students with skills to use throughout their careers, not just at the beginning of their path,” says Daniels Dean Christine Riordan. “As the Daniels College of Business celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, we’re forging a shared vision for our next century. Our foundation rests on forward-thinking curriculum and a strong community. Karen will play a key role in the development of a deep and supportive network of business executives, alumni, friends and academic professionals.”
Dowd has served as a practice leader and senior consultant for the Empower Group and director of Career Services and Placement at the University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business. From 1982–1984, she served as director of Career Planning and Placement at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Business.
She holds a B.A. from Saint Mary’s College, an M.S. from Indiana University, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership from the University of Virginia.
Dowd is a board member and co-chair of the membership and research committees for the MBA Career Services Council and is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
“As executive director of career services for Daniels, I and my team will help our students with the tools and resources they need to pursue successful careers,” says Dowd. “The most effective way to achieve it is to establish partnerships with companies and foster relationships with mentors across a broad set of activities, including student participation, executive education and corporate involvement.”
