Research Areas

The physics research effort at DU is rapidly growing, with eight new faculty hired in the last four years. Our research efforts are focused in three main areas:
 
  • Astronomy and astrophysics
  • Biophysics 
  • Condensed matter and materials physics
     

We interact closely with other departments at DU throughly the newly established Molecular and Cellular Biophysics program and the Center for Nanoscience Science and Engineering. Many of the faculty carry out collaborative research with the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Colorado, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado. We pursue both experimental and computational research approaches. The department is well equipped with standard measurement and characterization equipment, and faculty and students have access to the new NSM high-performance computer cluster.
