Student Awards

DiDi Wei, BS Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics x2012, was named a 2011 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. DiDi spent the 2010-11 school year at King's College London and conducted physics research at UCLA in summer 2011.

Naomi Pequette, BS Physics 2011, won the National Young Astronomer award in 2007 for research conducted while she was a high-school student. She has since pursued astronomical research at the Maria Mitchell Observatory and the University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as at DU, presenting several posters at national conferences. In her senior year at DU, Naomi received the national Universities Space Research Association Education Scholarship; her senior thesis was titled "Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer Modeling of epsilon Aurigae."

Nathan McNew, BS Physics and Mathematics 2010, was named a 2009 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. Nathan was the first Goldwater Scholar from DU; Donald Dressen (BS Physics and Chemistry 2008) was awarded a Goldwater honorable mention in 2007. Nathan was profiled in 2008 by DU Today.

Jeffrey Stout, BS Physics 2005, was one of 32 U.S. college students selected as a Rhodes Scholar for 2006. Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest of the international study awards available to American students, providing 2 or 3 years of study at Oxford. Jeff's senior honors thesis was titled "Astrophysical Spectro-Polarimetric Imaging in the Mid-Infrared."
