Student Awards

DiDi Wei, BS Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics 2012, was named a 2011 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. DiDi spent the 2010-11 school year at King's College London and conducted physics research at UCLA in summer 2011. She is now a Ph.D. student in Applied Physics at Harvard University.

Naomi Pequette, BS Physics 2011, won the National Young Astronomer award in 2007 for research conducted while she was a high-school student. She has since pursued astronomical research at the Maria Mitchell Observatory and the University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as at DU, presenting several posters at national conferences. In her senior year at DU, Naomi received the national Universities Space Research Association Education Scholarship; her senior thesis was titled "Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer Modeling of epsilon Aurigae."

Nathan McNew, BS Physics and Mathematics 2010, was named a 2009 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. Nathan was the first Goldwater Scholar from DU; Donald Dressen (BS Physics and Chemistry 2008, now a Ph.D. student at Harvard University) was awarded a Goldwater honorable mention in 2007. Nathan was profiled in 2008 by DU Today. He is now a Ph.D. student in mathematics at Dartmouth University.

Jeffrey Stout, BS Physics 2005, was one of 32 U.S. college students selected as a Rhodes Scholar for 2006. Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest of the international study awards available to American students, providing 2 or 3 years of study at Oxford. Jeff's senior honors thesis was titled "Astrophysical Spectro-Polarimetric Imaging in the Mid-Infrared."
