What is Greek housing?
Greek housing refers to the actual chapter house that is occupied by a fraternity or sorority. Greek houses at the University of Denver fulfill the requirement of on-campus living.
Who lives in each Greek chapter house?
Only initiated chapter members and designated House Directors are allowed to live in a chapter house. Additionally, first-year students are NOT allowed to move into their Greek chapter house until their second year.
How am I eligible to live in my Greek chapter house?
In order to be released, a student must fill out the Sophomore Release form meet the overall GPA requirement of a 2.2 and be in Good Standing with the University. Students have the ability to appeal their judicial standing with the Office of Citizenship and Community Standards. The Office of Citizenship and Community Standards is the only office that can reverse any judicial decisions. Students also have the ability to resubmit their Sophomore Release form for reconsideration once their overall GPA reaches or exceeds the 2.2 minimum requirement.
When can I move into the chapter house?
University of Denver has a two-year live-in requirement for first and second year students under the age of 21 who do not live with a parent or legal guardian within a 90-minute radius of the university. First-year students are NOT allowed to move into their Greek chapter house until their second year. In order to be allowed to choose a Greek house as an option, students must complete a Sophomore Release. Choosing their Greek chapter house as a living option will satisfy the two-year live-in requirement.
What is Sophomore Release?
Sophomore Release is a requirement for all rising sophomores who wish to live in their Greek chapter house during their second year. In order to be released, a student must meet the overall GPA requirement of a 2.2 and be in Good Standing with the University.
What is the cost to live in a Greek chapter house?
The costs to live in a Greek chapter house are very comparable to that of living in a residence hall. Each chapter house has different costs associated with it, dependent upon the rent, the food service, and the membership dues. We encourage your student to ask these questions during recruitment. For the most updated and specific cost breakdown, please contact the House Corporation Board for your students’ chapter.
Will my housing scholarship/grant apply to the chapter house?
Although there are different types of housing scholarships/grants, the majority of them are transferable to the Greek chapter houses that are owned by the University of Denver. including Delta Delta Delta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Chi, and the Lambda Chi Alpha house, once it is opened in January 2008. How am I billed for Greek housing?
There are currently four chapter houses that are owned by the University and utilize the University’s billing. These houses include Delta Delta Delta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Chi and the Lambda Chi Alpha house, once it is opened in January 2008, and the room rent will appear on the quarterly Bursar’s bill.
If you live in a chapter house not listed above, your room rent will be billed individually by the chapter and will not appear on your Bursar’s bill.
What is a Greek Housing Contract?
The Greek Housing Contract (link) binds the individual member to live in their chosen fraternity/sorority house. Currently, the University manages Housing Contracts for Delta Delta Delta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Sigma, and Sigma Chi. All other Greek Housing Contracts are managed by the individual House Corporation Boards.
How do I break my Greek Housing Contract?
Housing Contracts for Delta Delta Delta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Sigma, and Sigma Chi are managed by the Office of Campus Activities. In order to be released from a Housing contract for one of these four chapters, a member must fill out the Greek Housing Contract Release Form, which entails getting permission for the House Corporation Board and undergraduate chapter president.
All other Greek Housing Contracts are managed by the individual House Corporation Boards. Therefore, members must work with the individual House Corporation Board for their chapter in order to be released from their contract.
