PHC Recruitment Guidelines
  1. All University of Denver Panhellenic Bylaws must be upheld.
  2. Formal Membership recruitment period will be held in the fall beginning on September 27, 2007 and ending on bid day October 1, 2007 .
  3. Membership Recruitment acceptances will be signed immediately after the last event the woman attends.

GREEK LETTERS

  1. Individual house Greek letters CAN be worn at any time PRIOR to the Recruitment period. Women are strongly encouraged to wear their Greek letters during the week of Discoveries and when students are moving in.
  2. Greek letters CANNOT be worn during the recruitment period. During the Recruitment period, when women are not allowed to wear individual house letters, women are encouraged to wear Panhellenic shirts and letters, and not individual house letters.
  3. Fraternity women are encouraged to wear sorority sportswear and jewelry during fall recruitment until the formal recruitment period, beginning on September 16, 2004 , so long as the following guidelines are adhered to:

Shirts may be worn only if they convey a positive message about Greeks.

Shirts involving and implying alcohol consumption and/or sexually explicit material are not to be worn.

Shirts from fraternity parties re not to be worn during this period.

Shirts from individual philanthropies, even if all house letters are printed somewhere on the shirt, cannot be worn due to their identifiable nature.

    CONTACT WITH POTENTIAL NEW MEMBERS

Women are encouraged to talk to all potential new members. We feel that placing restrictions on who initiated members can speak to will encourage an unfriendly, unwelcoming environment for the PNM’s.

    1. Initiated women are allowed to reveal their affiliation to PNM’s. However, their conversation will strive to include not only the positive aspects of their individual house, but the Panhellenic community as a whole.
    2. “Dirty Rushing” is strictly forbidden. Conversations between PNM’s and initiated members should reflect Panhellenic values and not try to sway a PNM’s decision to join an individual house.
    1. There will be no promising of bids, directly or indirectly, by any member, new member, or alumna of a fraternity.
    2. From the time that potential new members arrive on campus through the acceptance of invitations on bid day, no potential member shall visit a women’s fraternity house, suite, lodge, or off-campus house except for during the designated formal recruitment events.
    3. No fraternity members, including new members and alumnae, may visit a potential new member in her place of residence during the formal recruitment period.
    4. No fraternity member shall buy anything for a potential new member (meal, soft drink, etc.). No potential new member shall buy anything for a fraternity member.
    5. No fraternity member shall host a party, on or off-campus, prior to or during the formal recruitment period, during which a potential new member may be present.
    6. Strict Silence between initiated members and PNM’s will be enforced during the time after Preference Parties and when PNM’s have opened their invitation. Strict Silence means that there will be NO contact between initiated members and PNM’s.

    INFRACTIONS

    1. Infractions will be handled through the Panhellenic Vice President for Judicial and all allegations and reports should be directed as such.
    2. The Panhellenic Vice President of Recruitment shall be responsible for notifying the fraternities involved if and when a woman cannot return to recruitment events after having accepted an invitation.

RHO GAMMA’S, DISCOVERY LEADERS, AND RESIDENCE STAFF

    1. Rho Gamma’s, Discovery Leaders, or undergraduate Residence Hall Staff while PNM’s are on campus can wear no identifying letters. These women are encouraged to wear Panhellenic attire and continue to show their support for the Panhellenic support.
    2. These women CANNOT reveal their affiliation to a PNM.

    OTHER

    1. The use of outside decorations during Recruitment parties is seen as a possible unfair advantage to houses that do not have the option to have them. Therefore, the ruling on outside decorations is under consideration for Recruitment 2005.
    2. Recruitment budgets are not to exceed $2000. Each house will be “on their honor” in regards to their budget. But, if it is brought to our attention that an exorbitant amount was spent, houses will be required to produce receipts.
    3. A factual, current, financial expense explanation shall be included in the new member information booklet.

USE COMMON SENSE WHEN TALKING TO AND INTERACTING WITH POTENTIAL NEW MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES. BE POLITE, SPEAK PANHELLENICALLY, BUT ALSO SPEAK TRUE. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON WHAT IS APPROPRIATE, ASK YOUR RECRUITMENT CHAIR, YOUR PRESIDENT, OR ANY INDIVIDUAL ON PANHELLENIC OR IN THE OFFICE OF GREEK LIFE
