Training and Education Requirement for IBC Protocols

Required CITI Education

ALL lab members handling biological materials must complete the CITI Training for Investigators, Staff and Students Handling Biohazards., Biosafety/Biosecurity course.

For more specific information on who must submit proof of completion of the CITI Training for Investigators, Staff and Students Handling Biohazards., Biosafety/Biosecurity course to IRBNet, please refer to the Personnel Requirements for IBC Protocols document below.

Creating a CITI User Account + Adding the Introduction to Biosafety course:

*Skip to the next section if you already have an existing account either at DU or at another institution.

1)      Go to www.citiprogram.org

2)      Enroll as new user and complete registration.

3)      Enter the University ofDenver as your affiliated institution.

4)      On the Select Curriculum - University of Denver page, scroll down to Question 6 and selectBasic Biosafety Training.

5)      Select "Continue."

6)      In your My Courses queue, select "Enter" next to the Training for Investigators, Staff and Students Handling Biohazards., Biosafety/Biosecurity course.

7)      Complete the course. Your average for the course must be 80% or better to pass. If it is not, select the modules with the lowest score and retake them.

8)      Please refer to Downloading CITI Training Certificates, Uploading to IRBNet Instructions document for step-by-step instructions on saving your completion certificate and uploading it to IRBNet.

Note: You may stop and resume the course at any time.

 

Adding the Introduction to Biosafety course under your existing CITI User Account:

1)      Go to www.citiprogram.org.

2)      Sign in using your username and password. If you have forgotten your password, please contact Briana.Coles@du.edu to request it.

3)      Select "Add a course or update your learner groups for University of Denver"

4)      On the Select Curriculum - University of Denver page, scroll down to Question 6 and selectBasic Biosafety Training.

5)      Select "Continue."

6)      In your My Courses queue, select "Enter" next to the Training for Investigators, Staff and Students Handling Biohazards., Biosafety/Biosecurity course.

7)      Complete the course. Your average for the course must be 80% or better to pass. If it is not, select the modules with the lowest score and retake them.

Personnel Requirements for IBC Protocols

 

Required Training Documentation

PIs must keep a record (digitally or on paper) in the laboratory detailing the trainings all personnel working with biological materials have received. A template is available.
