A Source of Intellectual Interest and Curiosity

Welcome to the Department of Philosophy. Here we ask timeless questions about the nature of reality and the possibility of human knowledge, and discuss contemporary issues relating to nanotechnology, artificial intelligence and euthanasia, all while studying historical texts essential to the beginning of many human civilizations. We aim to help you develop the skills to form sound reasoning and arguments, formulate concepts and questions clearly, and solve theoretical and real-world problems intelligently.

The Value of a Philosophy Degree

A degree in philosophy emphasizes clarity of thought and development of exceptional reasoning skills. Our graduates have found that the transferrable skills of sound arguments and critical thinking that our philosophy program nurtures greatly complements another major in virtually all other disciplines.

As well, undergraduate philosophy majors are among the most employable, according to a 2011 Georgetown University study, with our graduates going on to find careers in numerous public and private work sectors. Many of our graduates have been accepted into law schools around the country. Others have successfully pursued graduates degrees in fields including public health, religious studies, and literature and linguistics, many in top universities.
