Purpose
Americorps is an opportunity to make a big difference in your life and the lives of those around you. It's a chance to apply your skills and ideals towards helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. Americorps is often referred to as "the domestic Peace Corps."
Eligibility
One year commitment, ages 18-24.
Awards and Benefits
Receive weekly living allowance, health coverage, and student loan deferment. Up to $4,725 for college, vocational school, graduate school, or to pay back student loans. To receive $4,725: must serve 1700 hours during 9 months to 1 year. To receive $2,362.50: must serve 900 hours during a period up to 2 years

Boren Scholarships for Education Abroad
Purpose
To support the importance students place on overseas experience by offering scholarships to U.S. undergraduate and graduate students for study abroad.
Eligibility
U.S. citizens; most academic fields; appropriate language facility. Geographic areas emphasized include Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Eastern and Central Europe, the Near East, South Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Awards and Benefits
Up to $20,000 depending on semester study, year study, or summer study.

Dr. Irwin E. Vinnik Fellowship for Advanced Study in Israel
Purpose
The Dr. Irwin E. Vinnik Fellowship provides scholarship funds to individuals who would benefit from educational travel and research in Israel, in the hope that recipients of the Fellowship will learn about Israel, Judaism and religious differences and pass on the knowledge and understanding gained during their stay, thereby enhancing the important task of interfaith awareness.
Eligibility
It is available to those who are from Colorado or are studying or teaching in Colorado, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, sexual orientation, or physical or mental disability. Students who are currently enrolled in programs in Judaic Studies, Religion, Human and/or Civil Rights or Interfaith study or who are pursuing ministerial or rabbinic degrees are encouraged to apply.

Fellowships from the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management
Eligibility
Applicants must be African American, Hispanic American, or Native American, U.S. citizens, and must have a bachelor’s degree. Based on merit.
Awards and Benefits
Full tuition based scholarships that enable its Fellows to enroll in graduate business programs at its 11 member universities. Course study must begin in the fall even if student is admitted at a program mid-year.

Purpose

Teach For America
Purpose
Teach for America's mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our nation's most promising future leaders in this effort. During the two year program, corps members go above and beyond traditional expectations to ensure that children growing up in low-income areas have more of the opportunities they deserve. At the same time, the corps members themselves gain the conviction and insight necessary to be lifelong leaders for fundamental change, regardless of their professional sector.
Eligibility
You must have received your bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by the first day of the summer institute. You must have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale (as measured by the institution awarding your degree) at the time we receive your application, as well as at the time of graduation. Due to the hiring restrictions of many of our partner school districts, Teach for America may only accept U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents for admission into the corps.
Awards and Benefits
Corps members are paid directly by the school districts where they work and receive the same salaries and health benefits as other beginning teachers. In addition to benefits such as loan forbearance and interest payment on qualified student loans, corps members receive an education award of $4,725 at the end of each year of service.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program
Eligibility
For college students who intend to pursue careers as scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. The awards will be made on the basis of merit to 2 groups of students-those who will be college juniors and those who will be college seniors. Applicants must have a “B” average and be a U.S. citizen.
Awards and Benefits
Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Up to a maximum of 2 years of scholarship support. Senior level scholarship recipients are eligible for a maximum of one year of scholarship support.

Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program (Javits Fellowships)
Purpose
This program provides fellowships to students of superior academic ability—selected on the basis of demonstrated achievement, financial need, and exceptional promise—to undertake study at the doctoral and Master of Fine Arts level in selected fields of arts, humanities, and social sciences.

George J. Mitchell Scholarship
Eligibility
Students with bachelor’s degrees who have shown academic distinction and potential for leadership. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30.
Awards and Benefits
Scholarship covers tuition, room, assistance with travel to and from Ireland, and an $11,000 stipend paid in 2 equal parts directly to scholar in addition to IRL 750 travel stipend to be used for travel within Ireland and Europe.

National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program (UGSP)
Purpose
To support the development of outstanding students to excel in biomedical research
Eligibility
Students who are enrolled in an accredited undergraduate institution with a GPA above 3.5 or are in the top 5% of his or her class should apply. The student must demonstrate extreme economic need or come from a disadvantaged background. The student must also be willing to fulfill a year of full time employment with NIH in Maryland for each year of support.
Awards and Benefits
Up to $20,000 per year, 10 weeks of paid laboratory experience, and a science mentoring that helps the student develop skills and knowledge.

National Institutes of Health—Graduate Partnerships Programs (GPP)
Purpose
To support the development of outstanding students to excel in biomedical research
Eligibility
Graduating seniors interested in doctoral work in biomedical research
Awards and Benefits
Graduate students who have applied to and are now enrolled in NIH-University partnership programs receive an NIH Intramural Research Training Award for stipend, health benefits, and tuition support as needed. This award is renewable up to five years based on the student’s progress toward degree. The Fall 2005 stipend level is $24,000.00. Stipend levels increase yearly. Student studies at both a home university and at NIH.

Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships
Purpose
Designed to encourage original and significant study of ethical or religious values in all fields of the humanities and social sciences.
Eligibility
Must have completed all pre-dissertation requirements by the end of November of the year in which they plan to apply. Must be writing on a topic of ethical or religious values, be enrolled in a graduate school in the U.S., must expect to complete Ph. D. by August 2 years after they apply for the fellowship.

Winners will receive $18,500 for 12 months of full-time dissertation writing. Graduate schools will be asked to waive tuition for Newcombe Fellows. These grants are non-renewable.

Phi Kappa Phi National Fellowships
Purpose
Every year, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards sixty Fellowships of $5,000 each and forty Awards of Excellence of $2,000 each to members entering their first year of graduate or professional study.

Seniors or graduate students who are or are willing to become Phi Kappa Phi members should apply (membership is attainable during application process). Rotary Scholarship
Purpose
To further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas during nine months of study abroad. The program sponsors several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students.
Eligibility
Undergraduates who are under 25 and unmarried should apply. Graduates who are under 31 should apply. Must have language skills for proposed country and be articulate and well informed. Applicants must show scholarship and leadership.

Tolstoi Guild Endowed Scholarship
Purpose
To assist current DU students with unmet financial need
Eligibility
The Tolstoi Guild Endowed Scholarship Fund is available to undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens and residents of Colorado, have a grade point average of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0, have demonstrated leadership abilities or potential, and have some financial need. Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation: Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship
Purpose
The program seeks to recruit talented students in academic programs relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. The goal is to attract outstanding students from all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds, who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State.
Eligibility
The Fellow must commit to pursuing a graduate degree in international studies at one of the graduate schools identified by the WWNFF. Participating graduate schools provide financial support in the second year of graduate study based on need. Each participant is obligated to perform four and one half years appointment as a Foreign Service Officer
Awards and Benefits
The fellowship award includes tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees during the junior and senior years of college and during the first year of graduate study with reimbursement for books and one round-trip travel.
