Responsibilities & Oversight
In carrying out his responsibilities, the provost works directly with the deans of the colleges, schools and divisions, faculties, vice provosts and other members of the provost's staff.
The provost's other responsibilities:
- Monitoring and assessing the implementation of the University vision, values, mission and goals, and providing measurable demonstrations of progress and achievement to the University community, chancellor and board of trustees
- Preparing the annual budget for the University, and assuring that budgeting and financial planning is inextricably wedded to academic ideals, priorities and goals
- Promoting academic excellence in graduate, undergraduate and non-traditional curricula and programs, both in-place and proposed
- Encouraging, fostering the environment for and supporting academic scholarship and research as intellectual activity eminently worthwhile and valuable in itself
- Promoting the integration of academic scholarship and research with teaching and learning both inside and outside the classroom
- Promoting shared governance, collegiality, community, fairness and respect among administration, faculty, staff and students
