Adjunct Professor
Dr. Rojas's research is concerned with understanding brain development
in children with pervasive developmental disorders like autism and fragile
X syndrome, as well as psychotic illnesses such as schizophrenia. Modern
non-invasive imaging tools such as magnetoencephalography (MEG), electroencephalography
(EEG), and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) are combined with
traditional behavioral techniques (psychophysics, neuropsychology) to
study cortical network development and its relationship to behavioral
development. Studies to date have focused on the identification of markers
of neurodevelopmental abnormalities in adults and young children, with
the ultimate aim of conducting functional imaging on the at-risk fetus
to improve our ability to predict long-term outcomes and develop early
interventions.
