Degrees Offered

DU Psychology majors can earn either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree or a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. The requirements for these degrees differ, but there is enough overlap so that it is possible to switch from a BA to a BS as late as the Sophomore year, and a BS to a BA during the Senior year. The BS degree is intended for students with strong science and math interests. Whether you obtain a BS or a BA will not usually influence your chances of getting a job or attending graduate school. However, the science and math courses required for the BS degree can be useful for certain types of graduate study, including medical school or neuroscience programs. Discuss your options with an academic advisor and choose the program that suits your interests and abilities.

In addition, students can receive one of the Cognitive Neuroscience Specialty Degrees that are offered jointly by the Biological Sciences and Psychology departments; these concentrations have more specific requirements within each department for the major and minor. This concentration can be obtained with a major in either department with a minor in the other, or with a double major. Use the link above and contact advisors in both departments for further information.

You can also get a Minor in Psychology

See Course Recommendations for additional information on choosing among the majors
