Special Sessions

The curriculum is supplemented by special sessions and field trips designed to give students an insider's view of the workings of the world of publishing.

  • Tour of Perseus Books Group, an exciting independent company with production facilities in Boulder, Colorado.
  • How the Novel Is Born: A discussion between Stephen White, New York Times bestselling author of Line of Fire, Dutton, 2012 and Karl Weber, President, Karl Weber Literary, former Editor and Publisher with McGraw-Hill, John Wiley & Sons, Times Business/Random House, Inc. This talk is hosted by the Tattered Cover Book Store in historic Lower Downtown Denver.
  • Overview of Magazine Publishing. Daniel Brogan, editor and publisher, 5280 Magazine.
  • Special Sessions on Career Development. Throughout the program, there will be special sessions on resumes, interviewing techniques and making connections through networking. During the final week, each student will have an opportunity for a one-on-one mock interview with a seasoned publisher.
