IAALS, the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System, is a national, independent research center at the University of Denver dedicated to continuous improvement in the process and culture of the civil justice system. IAALS empowers others with the knowledge, models, and will to advance a more accessible, efficient and accountable civil justice system. IAALS works collaboratively with stakeholders to drive improvements and solutions in four critical areas: civil court process, judicial selection and performance evaluation, family cases and legal education.
The mission of IAALS' Honoring Families Initiative (HFI) is to advance empirically informed models for dignified and fair processes for the resolution of divorce and child custody cases in a manner that is more accessible and more responsive to children, parents and families. Working collaboratively with the University of Denver's Strum College of Law, Psychology Department and School of Social Work and national experts, HFI has developed a model for the Resource Center for Separating and Divorcing Families (RCSDF). The RCSDF is an interdisciplinary center located on the University of Denver's campus dedicated to meeting the needs of separating and divorcing families.
