Athletic Services

The Office of the Registrar is responsible for determining academic eligibility for student athletes.

Academic requirements for athletes

A student athlete must be registered as a full-time student (a minimum of 12 quarter hours) per quarter.

Progress toward a degree

A student athlete must:

  • Pass a minimum of 6 quarter hours of academic credit each regular academic term (interterm and summer hours may not be used to fulfill this requirement).
  • Earn a minimum of 27 quarter hours of academic credit during each regular academic year (interterm and summer hours may not be used to fulfill this requirement).
  • Earn a minimum of 36 quarter hours of academic credit before the start of the second year (interterm and summer hours may be used to fulfill this requirement).
  • Declare a major and minor, if applicable, when you have completed 75 credits of your undergraduate degree.
A student athlete must also meet the following:

  • Before the start of the third year—40 percent of their degree complete
  • Before the start of the fourth year—60 percent of their degree complete
  • Before the start of the fifth year—80 percent of their degree complete
Minimum grade point average (GPA)

A student athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00.
