Schedule of Classes

The University of Denver does not publish a print-copy Schedule of Classes catalogue or book. Detailed information pertaining to classes available for the current academic year's previous and upcoming terms is available on-line via a searchable Schedule of Classes. Schedules for prior years are available in Schedule Archives.

The on-line Schedule of Classes is available via the Office of the Registrar website at http://www.du.edu/registrar. Since this utility is available to the general public, prospective students and other interested parties who are not directly affiliated with the University of Denver can view detailed information regarding courses offered for specific terms at the University (i.e. Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer Quarters; Fall, Spring and Summer Semesters (College of Law); and Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer Interterms).

The detailed course information available from the Schedule of Classes makes it a valuable tool for students as they develop their course schedules prior to advising and registration. The class schedule listing page includes instructor email links, section notes, meeting times and links to other section information for courses meeting the search criteria.

Using the On-Line Schedule of Classes

From the Courses & Schedules menu button on the Registrar's home page (http://www.du.edu/registrar) select the Schedule of Classes link.

You will be taken to the Class Schedule Search page; select a term using the "Search by Term" drop-down. Make sure you choose the correct term and year. College of Law courses are listed under "Semester"; all other courses are listed under "Quarter" or "Interterm" (Interterm courses are short intensives offered between quarters.) Terms which are not open for registration have a "view only" notation. Once you click "submit" you will be taken to the Class Schedule Search form. You are now ready to search for courses.

SUBJECT SEARCH: You must select a subject from the "Subject" drop-down. You can search for multiple subjects in the same search by holding down the CTRL key while selecting subjects from the drop-down.

Most subjects are directly associated with an academic unit of the same name; accounting courses are listed under Accounting. Some subject listings cross academic disciplines or are associated with curricular requirements and may be difficult to locate. For example, Business- Core will list courses that have the subject code, BUS. These courses cover introductory material required for business majors that cross disciplines.

NARROWING YOUR SEARCH: You may narrow your search to include Course Number, Title, Schedule Type, Credit (hour) Range, Course Level (Graduate or Undergraduate), Part of Term, Instructor, and Attribute Type. You may also search for sections available at specific meeting times and days.

Search Tips

Schedule Type Search: The Schedule Type of a course distinguishes the instructional delivery mechanism for a course. Searching by Schedule Type can assist with finding online (Distance) classes separately from on-campus lectures or finding specific science labs (for example). The available schedule types are as follows:

  • Clinical/Practicum - faculty supervised training and educational experience where the student is working in a field setting.
  • Combined - A course in which online (or other distance) instruction is combined with face-to-face instruction, where a substantial portion of the face-to-face instruction is replaced by online instruction.
  • Directed Study/Research - used when a regular course is offered individually to a single student.
  • Distance - A course in which all or nearly all of the organized instruction is conducted online or by distance learning methodologies.
  • Independent Study/Research - independent project or research in which the student works more or less individually with an instructor.
  • Internship/Externship/Coop. Ed. - supervised experience in an area of specialization that may be conducted either on or off campus with the student making periodic reports to the instructor.
  • Lab - laboratory experiences that require special-purpose equipment for student participation, experimentation, observation or practice in a field of study.
  • Lecture - organized instruction in a lecture (one-way communication) format.
  • Lecture/Lab - instruction including both laboratory activities as defined above in addition to lecture or recitation instruction.
  • Off-Site - organized instruction of any type offered in an off-campus location.
  • Performance - individualized instruction with a faculty member such as music performance.
  • Recitation/Discussion - regularly scheduled discussion session that is offered in addition to lecture instruction, but is generally scheduled in smaller groups than the lecture.
  • Seminar - organized instruction in a recitation (two-way communication) format.
  • Studio - an organized method of instruction with emphasis on the synthesizing nature of the design process and conducted through critique and one-to-one interactions.
  • Study Abroad - course wholly taught outside the U.S.
  • Travel - class field instruction involving travel away from the campus, within the U.S.

Instructor Search: Since a subject code must be selected, it helps to know the correct subject of the course an instructor is teaching in order to find courses taught by the desired instructor. If you are unsure, you can select multiple (or all) subjects by holding down the CTRL key while choosing subjects before selecting the instructor's name.

Attribute Type Search: The attribute search allows you to narrow your search to courses that might be otherwise difficult to find. Current searchable attributes include:

  • Analytical Inquiry: Natural - course that fulfill the Ways of Knowing Analytical Inquiry: Natural and Physical World Common Curriculum requirements.
  • Analytical Inquiry: Society - course that fulfill the Ways of Knowing Analytical Inquiry: Society and Culture Common Curriculum requirements.
  • Arts & Humanities Foundations - course that will fulfill former Arts and Humanities University Core requirements.
  • Honors course offered for honors credit.
  • Math/Comp Science Foundations - course that will fulfill former Math and Computer Science University Core requirements.
