Interfaith Involvement

A Multi-Faith Campus

The University of Denver recognizes the wide diversity of religious traditions represented among its students, faculty, staff and administrators.  And DU intends that members of all of those traditions are able to find support on campus.  DU also hopes that members of the University Community will have multiple opportunities to engage one another in conversations, or experiences, that deepen understanding.

Campus Holy Day Policy (employees):  With regard to University employees, official university policy allows employees to take time off to attend to religious obligations.  Employees are asked to notify their supervisors “no less than one week in advance” of their desired absence.  Employees may choose to have the time off without pay, or as charged to their vacation time.

Campus Holy Day Policy (students):  University policy states that, while “instructors have the right and responsibility to establish attendance policies for their courses”, participation in official University activities, personal emergencies and religious observances are valid reasons for absences” (University of Denver Undergraduate Bulletin, 2007-2009, p.38).  “Students are responsible for requesting an approved class absence from an instructor in advance and for completing assignments given during their absence” (Memo from the Office of the Registrar for the Provost and the Vice Chancellor for Business and Financial Affairs:  “University Holiday Policies - Religious Accommodations”, dated 9/7/2007).

Interfaith Calendar:  Here you can find what any particular tradition is observing on any particular day!

Forum for Religion and Society a project of the University of Denver and Iliff School of Theology, bringing the University, the seminary and the community together for multi-faith exchange, learning and relationship building.

Interfaith Student Group:  A group hoping to facilitate understanding of the diverse religious backgrounds of the DU community, promote the diversity of faiths on campus, provide a forum for discussion and education about the faiths, and encourage religious tolerance on campus. The organization will not endorse any faith but rather bring other organizations together.
