Crisis Communication

As part of the Critical Incident Management Plan (CIMP), and policy, the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) manages the crisis communications plan and preparedness on behalf of the institution.

The crisis communication internal plan outlines the broad objectives, roles, responsibilities and protocols which will guide the University in its communication efforts with appropriate internal and external audiences during a critical incident, emergency or large-scale crisis.  It is important to note that each incident occurs in varying degrees of severity and seldom is there a boiler-plate response to any incident.

DU maintains a variety of communications tools involving both low-tech and high tech devices.  We may utilize these types of notification or others as the incident warrants.  They include but are not limited to:

  • Broadcast email through CINS or webmail
  • Broadcast voice and text messaging (CINS)
  • Internet Home Page Alert
  • Local Media
  • Other communication such as individual phone calls, bull horn or other communication devices.
