Tenant User Liability Insurance Policy (TULIP)
What is TULIP?
TULIP is a Tenants' and Users' Liability Insurance Policy. It is used by the University of Denver as the University permits "third parties" to use University facilities for specific events. It is designed to provide low cost general liability insurance to third party users of DU facilities.
It protects both the Facility User (the third party) and the University against claims by third parties who may be injured or lose property as a result of participating in an event.
Events may range from low risk events such as seminars, receptions, or weddings to higher risk events including camps, sports events, or concerts.
TULIP can only be purchased when the event takes place in a DU owned facility. It does not extend to other properties, e.g. the Cable Center.
Our current program is adminstered through URIMA, for detailed information please view the URMIA website.
External Users
Third parties with no relation to the institution, and no institutional financial support need to obtain the TULIP Code from their event planner, log in, complete an application form, and pay by credit card for their coverage. Upon completion of the transaction, they will receive via e-mail a copy of their application and a binder of coverage. The Risk Management Department and the event planner will each receive a copy of the application (describes the event) and a certificate of insurance. The events planner is responsible for checking the application against the agreement for facilities use to verify that the correct information was provided.
Internal Users
Internal user are student programs or events that involve a third party but which are "sponsored" by the University, for example, the Office of Internationalization holds an International Food Fair, or the History Department sponsors the Civil War Historians Association's Annual Conference. There MUST be a third party user, vendor(s), or performer(s) to qualify. The University or the Third Party will log on at the Purchase Insurance website, using the third party's name and the Internal User Code obtained from the event sponsor or Risk Management and complete an application. To complete the transaction the third party must purchase with a credit card.
Low risk events will be automatically underwritten, and users should be able to complete their transaction in one web session if they pay by credit card. If they do not pay by credit card their application will be held until payment is received.
High risk activities (those not listed in the drop down boxes) must have an application filed by fax. These events are individually underwritten. You must allow at least 10 days from the date your complete application is received for a quote. If your online or hard copy application is not complete, there may be additional delays.
*At this time, programs that have exhibitors, vendors, or performers cannot be automatically underwritten.
