General Liability (GL)

  • $50,000 deductible.
  • Contracts: Contract language is more important than ever in reducing our potential liability. Please contact the Director at 303.871.2327 for indemnification and insurance language review in conjunction with University Counsel legal review.
  • Contract Authority: A limited number of persons are authorized by the Board to sign contracts. They in turn can provide written authority to sign contracts. Do not sign contracts or authorize unless you have authority!
  • GL Requirements of 3rd parties: We require $1Million per occurrence and $2Million aggregate of our 3rd party contractors. Contact the Loss Control Manager at 303.871.2354 for certificate of insurance letter.
  • Tenant User Liability Insurance (TULIP), is available for those who do not have insurance, on a daily basis. This provides a $1Million layer of protection to the university for GL coverage. Check our training site for further information at http://ducal.du.edu
  • Independent Contractor Agreements are required for any 3rd party conducting business who may be paid by the university. This requires that they have their own health, or other appropriate insurance.
  • Assumption of Risk Forms are required for 3rd party activities, including student trips; club sports events, and volunteer activities such as theatre, etc.
  • Internship Agreements with 3rd parties should be in place with each 3rd party utilizing student interns for non-credit experience, due to GL and workers’ comp concerns. Contact the Director in conjunction with University Counsel review.

Educators’ Legal Liability

  • Discuss any employment concerns immediately with supervisor, HR, Ombuds Officer, Office of Diversity, or University Counsel.

Overseas Travel Programs

  • Risk Management is now tracking all trips overseas in conjunction with Internationalization for liability purposes. If you have any groups or individuals traveling overseas, you will need to work with the Office of Internationalization regarding DU policies and procedures.
  • If this is an individual traveling overseas for a conference or program, please make sure that you send notice including itinerary, days to and from, location of travel, and brief description of program to the Office of Internationalization and Risk Management Department two weeks prior to travel.

Workers’ Compensation

Ergonomics Questions: Please request ergo workstation evaluations from the Loss Control Manager at 303.871.2354. Call early-don’t wait for problems to get worse.
