Learn to Play Basketball

Skill Levels

Beginner

This class introduces participants to the basic fundamentals of basketball through games, drills and periodic skill testing. Each participant will receive evaluations based on attendance, attitude and demonstration of basic skills.

Intermediate

This class builds off the basics taught in the beginner level and will help take participants to the next level in their game.

Through fast-paced games and drills, participants:

  • Receive position-specific instruction.
  • Learn offensive and defensive footwork.
  • Focus on shooting and rebounding.
  • Prepare for competitive play.

Prerequisites for the intermediate-level class

Before registering for the intermediate-level class, participants should:

  • Be able to shoot comfortably on an 8-foot hoop.
  • Demonstrate the fundamental skills of basketball.
  • Dribble a ball the length of a full court without losing the ball.
  • Dribble confidently with both hands.
  • Pass and receive a basketball while on the move.
  • Understand the concepts of offense, defense and teamwork.
  • Shoot a lay up off two feet.
