Ballistics and High Explosives Test Facilities

ARTI uses two ranges for a variety of ballistics, terminal effects and explosives testing. Our researchers have a long record of experience in experimental terminal ballistics and impact physics. Our work has ranged from the assessment of concepts for armor or ballistic protection to measurement of basic parameters of impact mechanics - pressures, material response and characterization of debris resulting from a perforating impact. Fully instrumentated ranges are available for a wide variety of energetic materials experiments.

East Range - Our High Energy Test Facility is located on approximately 130 acres of open range land east of the Denver area.  This facility houses 8 buildings including: offices, indoor gun bays, outdoor shaped charge testing/gun bays, machine shops, x-ray processing facilities, and cold storage.  This facility has multiple explosive arena's strategically located so multiple projects can be running simultaneously.  We maintain a full line of heavy equipment which is utilized on projects to save time and money.  We also hold an extensive inventory of high speed instrumentation capable of gathering a wide variety of data.

Tunnel - Our indoor ballistics lab is located a few miles west of the Applied Research & Technology offices on the Denver Federal Center campus.  This unique facility offers multiple indoor bays for those projects requiring a controlled environment.  Both gun bays can be reconfigured for a customized setup to achieve the best data collection results.  This facility is furnished with its own onsite machine shop, and also comes fully stocked with advanced instrumentation capable of gathering many types of data.  In addition this facility is capable of processing x-ray film onsite, allowing the client flexibility to make minor changes/adjustments to test plans as new developments occur.
