  • Description

Dr. Peter Rupnowski is a research professor at University of Denver and a postdoctoral researcher at National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He received two master degrees in mechanical engineering at Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland in 1998. His master thesis focused on the concentration of stresses in the field of external physical loads and on the analysis of close-loop kinematic chains for the machine tools applications. In 2005, he defended a PhD dissertation at University of Denver. His doctoral research concentrated on the multi-scale stress and damage initiation in graphite/polyimide composites used in the aerospace applications. After graduation, Dr. Rupnowski joined National Center for Photovoltaics at National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO.

  • Areas of Research

Dr. Rupnowski's current technical expertise is in solar energy, specifically in photovoltaics, a technology that converts sunlight directly into electricity. This particular solar technology has a high potential to become a significant source of electricity in the near future reducing US dependence on the foreign fossil energy supplies. Peter himself provides technical leadership in several solar PV energy R&D projects, which mainly focus on materials characterization, solar-cell process development and optimization, defect engineering and development of new PV diagnostic and characterization tools. Recently, Peter participated in a new project related to hydrogen fuel cells possibly integrating solar as a source.
