Dr. Roscoe Hill

Roscoe spent his childhood in Nebraska, did his undergraduate in Minnesota, and obtained graduate degrees in Philosophy from the University of Chicago. He also studied in New York and Freiburg, Germany (Fulbright). Roscoe arrived at DU in 1973 to teach Philosophy, but has spent nearly half those years in administration. He was Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences from 1990-1998, and is now back teaching full-time in the Philosophy department as well as in the Social Justice Communty, the Pioneer Leadership Program and the Wellness LLC.

 

Katie Symons

Katie is a native of Denver, CO and spent her childhood and young adult years here. She then spent four years of her undergraduate in Walla Walla, WA at Whitman College. After graduating with a BA in Languages and Literature (with an emphasis in Spanish), she spent time traveling throughout South America and teaching English in Brazil. Katie started her work at DU with the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL) in October of 2000. Katie has led students to Mexico and Nicaragua through the Alternative Break programs at DU. She continues as the part-time associate director with the CCESL, as well as acting as the assistant director for the Social Justice Community. She loves getting to know the new sudents each year through the SJC, as they continually bring new energy and ideas to the table!

 

Dr. B. Afeni Cobham

Dr. Cobham is the Assistant Provost for the Division of Student Life at DU. She is from Brooklyn, New York and previously was the Assistant Dean of Student Life at Brown University. Dr. Cobham has fifteen years of diverse experience in higher education ranging from a tenure track faculty position to appointments in the areas of Residence Life and Housing, Student Activities, Orientation, Judicial Affairs, Enrollment Management and Retention, Multicultural Affairs, Upward Bound, Crisis Management, Greek Life and Leadership Development. Dr. Cobham earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Marist college, and a Master of Education in Student Personnel and Higher Education from the University of Georgia. In 2000, she made history at Indiana University (Bloomington) by becoming the first recipient of the Master of Arts degree in African American and African Diaspora Studies. She also earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in higher Education and Student Affairs.

 

Dr. Annemarie Vaccaro

Dr. Vaccaro received her B.A. in Social Sciences from Castleton State College, an M.A. in Student Affairs from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, as well as an M.A. in Sociology and Ph.D. in Higher Education from The University of Denver. Annemarie serves as an Assistant Professor in the Morgridge College of Education. She also teaches in the departments of Sociology, Gender and Women's Studies and the DU Women's College. Her passion is teaching about diversity and social justice and most of the courses she teaches at DU encompass these topics. She also challenges herself to continue learning about social justice, and has taken part in three national social justice workshops.

 

Leighanne Regan
Ph.D. Student

Leighanne is originally from western Massachusetts. She received her B.A. in Classics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and then went on to get her M.Ed. in Higher Education also from the UMASS Amherst. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Higher Education from DU. She initially found her passion for social justice issues from working with the Native American Living & Learning Community at the UMASS Amherst and by leading a World AIDS Day "Slam Jam" event on the campus. Leighanne hopes to combine her various interests in traveling with empowering young social justice activists all over the world.
