Application dates

For optimal consideration, you should apply to the GSSW doctoral program between October and January prior to the year in which you seek admission. Submit your application by February 1 to receive priority consideration for financial aid. Doctoral applications will not be considered after April 1.

Entry dates

The GSSW doctoral program begins in Fall Quarter and is designed for full-time students.

How to apply

To apply, you must submit an application online. A completed doctoral application includes:

  • the Doctoral Application (submitted online) 
  • a professional writing sample (for detailed instructions, view the Printable Instructions)
  • a Statement of Professional and Educational Intent (for detailed instructions, view the Printable Instructions)
  • an official transcript from all colleges or universities previously attended
  • three written recommendations (you'll need reference names and valid email addresses during the online application process; recommenders will be emailed the appropriate form and detailed instructions how to submit their recommendation electronically)
  • a résumé (submitted online)
  • a $60 application fee (submitted online or mailed separately)

You also must submit scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The GRE must have been taken within five years of the date you apply to GSSW.
