Dr. Sarah M. Bexell has been engaged in wildlife conservation, conservation education and humane education for many years. Currently the Director of Conservation Education and Communications at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and an Education Specialist in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Black-footed Ferret Recovery Program, she has participated in projects related to conservation, animal behavior and education for 15 years. She was instrumental in helping the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and Chengdu Zoo establish their conservation and education departments, and she has served as Director of Conservation Education and Communications at the Chengdu Research Base since 2006. She was an Instructor in the Environmental Sciences Department of China's Sichuan University in 2007-08.
Dr. Bexell's prior experience includes a number of positions with Zoo Atlanta, including Manager of China Conservation Education Programs, Field Conservation Education Specialist, Founder and Coordinator of the Conservation Lecture Series and Golden Lion Tamarin Conservation Program Coordinator.
Dr. Bexell has been an Invited Lecturer at Georgia State University, the University of Georgia's Institute of Ecology and Shorter College. She is the author of many scholarly works including book chapters, journal articles and presentations at national and international conferences, and she is the recipient of numerous research grants, both here and abroad. Dr. Bexell is a member of the Society for Human Ecology, the Society for Conservation Biology, the International Society for Anthrozoology, the International Zoo Educators Association, the North American Association for Environmental Education, and the Turtle Survival Alliance.
