A community practice specialist, Prof. Jean East serves as director of GSSW's distance education program. She also is co-founder of Project WISE (Women's Initiative for Service and Empowerment), a Denver-based non-profit agency that provides counseling, mentoring and community organizing services with low-income women. Prof. East was named 2003 Social Worker of the Year by the Colorado Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, won the University of Denver's 2006 Distinguished Teaching Award, and received a 2007 "Be Bold" award from the Women's Foundation of Colorado. At GSSW, she teaches foundation practice courses and community concentration courses on community organizing, leadership, administration and supervision.
