Prof. Michele Hanna teaches MSW courses in multicultural social work practice, child welfare practice and social work supervision, as well as an undergraduate course called "Introduction to Social Work."
Before coming to GSSW, she participated in a five-year federally funded research project on barriers to, and success factors in, special needs adoption. Prof. Hanna's professional positions have included child protective service worker, child welfare adoption specialist, child welfare supervisor and program field representative for a statewide special-needs adoption program. Recently, she helped develop a professional development Adoption Therapy Certification curriculum offered through GSSW's Butler Institute for Families.
"The most important tool social workers have is themselves. When you embark on this profession, you must be committed to self-exploration--exploring your ingrained stereotypes, biases and values. You must be willing to grow. It's a never-ending process."
