Prof. John "Jack" Jones is internationally known as a researcher and scholar of social development, both in developed and developing countries. He was a member of the GSSW faculty from 1987 to 2004, and he served as the school's Dean from 1987 to 1996. Since 2004, he has been a Research Professor at the University of Denver's Conflict Resolution Institute. His research has been conducted under the auspices of the United Nations, NGOs, foundations and federal agencies. Among his many publications are a dozen books, including Liberty to Live, exploring the origins of human security and its crucial role in development. A previous book, co-authored with Asfaw Kumssa, examines transitional economies in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe. Currently, Prof. Jones is conducting research on human security among refugees and internally displaced persons in Northern Kenya. The project is a collaborative effort of the United Nations, GSSW and the University of Nairobi.
