Prof. Cathryn Potter is the Executive Director of the Erna and Brad Butler Institute for Families, which engages in collaborative research and technical assistance with numerous states, agencies and Native American tribes to support best practices in child welfare, juvenile justice and children's mental health. The Butler Institute also manages Colorado's child welfare stipend program for MSW students pursuing a career in child welfare.
One of the most active researchers at the University of Denver, Prof. Potter is currently involved in numerous child welfare and juvenile justice projects. She teaches in the foundation year practice and research sequences, and in the concentration year Child Welfare Track.
"My early experience as a child welfare worker taught me how important a social work orientation is to working with families and children. Since then, I have had wonderful opportunities in clinical and community practice, and as a researcher. It is a pleasure to be able to work with students as they join the ranks of professional social workers."
