GSSW faculty and students are conducting a wide variety of research, training and technical assistance projects affecting individuals, families and communities.

GSSW research:

  • provides vital information to national and state policy makers
  • promotes effective social work practice
  • enriches learning among GSSW students, as faculty members bring their expertise into the classroom
  • supports students through stipend programs and opportunities to serve as research assistants

Externally supported research and training at GSSW during the 2007-2008 academic year totaled approximately $2.6 million. This represents almost 19% of the University of Denver's total sponsored research and training, making GSSW one of the leading academic divisions in terms of externally supported projects.

GSSW's three institutes provide in-depth research and training in child welfare, gerontology and animal-assisted social work. The Butler Institute for Families manages projects totaling approximately $2 million, among the highest volume of research, training and technical assistance for any group at the University.
