Clinical Associate Professor Michael M. Talamantes is passionate about the intersection of health and social work and has been a medical social worker for over 23 years, working with chronically ill patients as a member of various multidisciplinary teams. He was a medical social worker at the University of Colorado Hospital for over 21 years in the area of liver transplantation. He also served as the clinical social work educator, working with all new hospital social workers to enhance the professionalism of social work throughout the hospital.
Talamantes has been a GSSW field instructor for over 18 years and has helped teach and mentor a new generation of hospital and medical social workers. A GSSW adjunct faculty member since 2011, he loves teaching in the classroom setting, likes to be creative in his classes and challenges his students to step outside their comfort zones in order to stimulate learning and have fun. Talamantes teaches foundation level courses, as well as courses in the health and wellness curriculum.
In addition to his appointment at GSSW, Talamantes also has an appointment to the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics' Genetic Counseling Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is a member of the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care and the North American Association of Liver Transplant Social Workers.
