A total of 18 GSSW faculty, visiting scholars, Butler Institute for Families researchers, PhD and MSW students were among the presenters and co-presenters at the 16th Annual Conference of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR), held in Washington, D.C., in January. This year’s conference also showcased our faculty's musical talents, as the Friendly Visitors band stole the show at the Friday evening President's Reception!
"We made quite a hit!," says Professor Jeff Jenson, Philip D. and Eleanor G. Winn Professor for Children and Youth at Risk and GSSW’s Associate Dean for Research, who organized the band, sang and played guitar. The band's name comes from an early term for social workers, around the time of America's settlement house movement.
Jenson's Friendly Visitors bandmates were University of Kansas Associate Professor Steve Kapp (bass), Hunter College Associate Dean for Research Dan Herman (guitar, banjo and vocals), GSSW Associate Professor Michele Hanna (vocals), and special guests Beth Falk and Justin and Amanda Smith.
