GSSW Prof. Debora Ortega has received the 2007-08 Outstanding Faculty Award from the University of Denver's Center for Multicultural Excellence (CME). The CME award letter calls Ortega "a champion for diversity and inclusive excellence at DU."
CME's Outstanding Faculty Award is given annually to those who have made exemplary contributions to the University's efforts to become more inclusive. The award was announced today by Jesus Trevino, Associate Provost for Multicultural Excellence, and Denise Pappas-Lucero, Chair of the Profiles of Excellence Graduation and Awards Ceremony to be held on May 29.
According the award letter sent to Ortega, the award was given in recognition of her "work in mentoring students, initiatives to diversify the curriculum, contributions to faculty of color and queer faculty, and unyielding support of the Center for Multicultural Excellence."
The letter also praised Ortega's leadership in creating the Latino Studies Center.
