You can enter the MSW program with advanced standing if you have a baccalaureate degree in social work from an accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program.  As a student with advanced standing, you'll begin the program in early July and complete your MSW degree during one academic year (fall, winter and spring quarters).

Summer quarter

The first quarter of the advanced standing program consists of course work only. You will take two required courses during this quarter, a multicultural social work practice class and a seminar that will help you integrate your BSW education with your social work experience and plan your continuing professional development. You'll also take two elective courses of your choice.

Concentration year

In fall quarter, you'll begin your concentration year in the same manner as two-year MSW students, advancing in professional knowledge and skill by specializing in one of two social work concentrations:

  • clinical practice, focusing on individuals, couples, groups and families, or
  • community practice, focusing on social planning, administration, policy development and advocacy, and community organization.

For detailed curriculum requirements, see [link to appropriate section of Bulletin].
