David Mayen

In addition to learning from professional internships, Denver International Program participants like David Mayen of Sudan bring new perspectives to our community. Mayen's contributions were honored by the State of Colorado in 2007.

Mayen, a member of the Sudan Peoples' Liberation Movement and one of the prospective architects of Sudanese democracy, completed his Denver International Program internship in the office of Cheri Jahn, Colorado House Speaker Pro Tempore.

A valuable resource

In June, 2007, the Colorado House of Representatives issued a certificate commending him "for his role in educating the members of the Colorado General Assembly on issues related to Sudan" and serving as a "valuable resource to the Body on acts of genocide occurring in Darfur."

The certificate also commends Mayen for "his passion for bringing back to Sudan the strong democratic values and institutional knowledge learned during his tenure in Colorado."

At Rep. Jahn's request, Mayen was also presented with a Colorado State Flag that had flown over the Capitol.
