c. The Sustainability Council web site is also live. The address is www.du.edu/green and there is a link from SAC to the Sustainability Council site. Click on “Resources” to get information regarding recycling computers, paper, etc. Karl French will forward the recycling logo to anyone who needs it. He presented our ideas for saving energy. The issues raised at the last SAC meeting about the shuttle were forwarded to Buddy Knox.
d. The deadline for Staff Advisory Council Award nominations is August 1 st.
3. Old Business
a. Picnic. Thursday, July 17, 2008
1) SAC members are requested to arrive in front of Margery Reed Hall at 10:45 and to stay late to help with cleanup.
2) SAC members are requested to wear their SAC polo shirts andwill wear name tags.
3) Also, wear sunscreen.
4) SAC members will be available at tables to answer questions, etc.
5) Prizes have been procured.
6) One last reminder about the Food Bank of the Rockies canned food drive will be sent July 16 th.
7) There will be a collection of canned items for Food Bank of the Rockies. We are doing a food drive now because food is received in the wintertime but slacks off at this time of year. 8) The cost per person was raised this year to$9.25. It was suggested that next year we don’t raise the cost, but instead lower it back to $9.00.
5) It was suggested the price of the meal not be included in the flyers to staff members, only in the flyer going to departments. This will avoid confusion by staff who may be unfamiliar with the procedure that they will have to buy their own ticket.
4. New Business
a. The Chancellor will be the speaker at the SAC meeting in August. Lunch will be provided. If there is anything specific you want him to address, let Stephanie know.
b. SAC Representative Elections: If you are not going to be the representative for another term and someone else will be, bring them to the next meeting. Let Stephanie Panion know so she can order enough food.
Membership and time spent in SAC . Sometimes supervisors are not as supportive as they should be when it comes to time commitments for SAC membership. Your supervisor should know that you are representing the department by attending SAC functions and this should be considered part of your work time. This is also considered community service, fulfilling the DU terms of employment. We are the equivalent of the Faculty Senate. SAC will develop some wording about what it means to be on the Council to be included in the By-Laws that will be submitted to Craig Woody and Paul Chan for approval. A suggestion was made that Craig Woody present this to the Vice Chancellors at the Vice Chancellors’ meeting. SAC can talk to your supervisors and discuss the time requirements, etc. If a problem arises, talk to Craig Woody.
c. Shannon Winkle requested SAC take over organizing “Take Your Child to Work Day.” This would include getting sponsors and funding and takes place the third week of April. Various activities are planned for each day. Karl French suggested the Faculty Senate be involved. SAC is interested in doing this. We will invite Shannon to a meeting to share information.
d. Ice Cream provided for Staff. A few years ago we had a surplus in the treasury and decided to provide ice cream for the staff. A dessert social was suggested for the fall. For now it will be a one-time event. If we continue to have extra funds, we may revisit it in the future.
5. The meeting was adjourned at 12:40.
The next meeting will be held August 13, 2008 in the DuPont Room, Mary Reed. Lunch provided.
Respectfully submitted,
Grace Fisgus, Secretary
