Student Employee Supervisor Training & Development Dates
We are excited to partner with Human Resources for some upcoming Student Employee Supervisor Training and Development sessions. We hope you consider attending!
Registration is through webCentral. Login, click on the Employee tab, scroll down and on the lower right under Training, click on "Management and Supervisory" to register. Registration questions can be directed to Aimee Neu at aimee.neu@du.edu.
Start off Right: First Day and Beyond for Student Employees First impressions are everything! Preparing for the first day, week, etc., is important in retaining and engaging student employees. By providing a great start, students are more likely to understand their role and be more engaged. Session Overview:
- Pre-first day communication
- First day (required new hire paperwork, tour and introductions, project, check-in, setting expectations)
- Setting expectations (scheduling, timesheets, unit policies, role responsibilities, etc.)
- Value in meaningful work
- Recognizing achievements
- Job training

Conflict Resolution and Coaching Student Employees Student employees have an impact on DU's programs and services. It's important to identify and address any performance problems or areas of concern. By providing ongoing performance feedback (good or bad) and conflict resolution, this is an opportunity to:
- Reinforce expectations
- Understand their unit/division/DU productivity and work environment
- Professionalism in the workplace
Session overview:
- Understand how to recognize strengths in students
- Understand how to provide performance coaching for areas of improvement
- Understand how to resolve conflict in the workplace
- Understand applicable policies and procedures

Preparing for and Delivering Student Employee Performance Reviews By utilizing the performance evaluation form and holding feedback meetings with student employees, this provides them with an opportunity to:
- Experience the performance review process (prior to "real world")
- Recognize strengths and areas for development
- Understand their impact on their unit/division/DU goals
Session overview:
- Understanding the value of the performance evaluation form and process
- Delivering ongoing performance feedback
- Identifying development opportunities for the student
- Preparing for and conducting the performance review

Work-Study Supervisor Training
Our next trainings are scheduled for Thursday, July 11th from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in Sturm Hall 353 and Thursday, August 15th from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. in Sturm Hall 353. Registration is available through webCentral. Click on the Employee tab, then Banner Applications, then Banner Financial Aid Work Award Training. We will review posting work-study job descriptions on the Student Employment website, as well as hiring students through webCentral.
