Skiing at Steamboat - Winter Carnival 2008

Winter Carnival is one of three DU Campus Traditions held each year. 2009 marked the 49th Anniversary of DU's Winter Carnival and included a fun and exciting week of activities both on-campus and on-mountain in Winter Park, CO.

Polar Bear Run

The 10th Annual Polar Bear Run 5K kicked off the festivities in Wash Park on Sunday, January 25th at 10am. This year's run was benefitted the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Over 300 students, faculty, staff and community members braved the chilly morning to take part in this year's run. A special thanks to all who participated. Race results can be found here.

On-Campus Activities

Winter Carnival week started on campus on Monday, February 2, 2009 with free Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream on the Driscoll Bridge. Tuesday afternoon was the Winter Carnival Grill 'n Chill with delicious free food from d.u.g.s. on the Driscoll Lawn. On Wednesday evening we had a special showing of the movie Miracle including great baked goods and hot chocolate from the Pajama Baking Company (on Pearl St.). Thursday morning's breakfast on the Driscoll Bridge featured amazing breakfast burritos from Snooze (located downtown).

On-Mountain Activities

On Friday, February 6th, we took the fun to Winter Park for the three-day on-mountain portion of Winter Carnival. Highlights were the Apres Ski event on Saturday afternoon and the DU Winter Carnival Tubing event at Fraser Hill on Saturday night.

Next year marks the 50th Anniversary of this incredible DU Tradition. You won't want to miss it, so plan to register early and get ready for some fun!
