LEP Academic Counseling

About Academic Counseling
Each LEP student is assigned an LEP academic counselor.  Students meet with their counselor on a weekly basis for one hour.  Students typically stay with the same counselor for the duration of their time in the LEP. 

Academic Counseling Offers:

  • A consistent, accessible, and personal connection on campus
  • An environment in which accountability, to both self and others, is developed
  • Cultivation of self awareness, self responsibility, and self advocacy
  • Assistance with written and expressive language
  • Organizational and time management strategiesLearning support and strategiesLearning support and strategies
    • Thoroughly review syllabi together to construct a map of the quarter
    • Each quarter, map out all assignments, tests, quizzes, and projects on a 10 week calendar
    • Each quarter, map out a weekly calendar that includes classes, extra-curricular, and daily living activities
    • Each week, refer back tot eh 10 week calendar to address current and future assignments
    • Each week, review successes and challenges to adjust the plan of action
  • Learning support and strategies
  • An environment in which to discover your personal learning style, strengths, and opportunities for growth 
  • Skill building in identifying and accessing resources, such as: LEP, DSP, campus, and community resources
