Tour of the Carillon and Williams Tower
The 65-bell carillon in Williams Tower is among the world’s largest and ranks among the top five in the country. The largest bell weighs over 6 tons. This rare tour of a carillon will include an explanation of the distinctive murals in the tower which portray the evolution of communication. Please note that the climb to the tower is steep and narrow.

The Olive and Olive Oil: Transforming Unpalatable Fruit to Liquid Gold

At $400/gallon, a fine Italian olive oil makes gas seem like a bargain, and equals the price required to enjoy a 1990 Brunello di Montalcino, arguably Italy’s finest wine.  Yet olives grew unnoticed for thousands of years in Syria before humans realized how to cure the inedible raw fruit or extract the delicate oil.  Today the olive tree (Olea europaea) is cultivated in more than 30 countries fortunate enough to enjoy a Mediterranean climate. In this lecture and tasting from Dr. Michael Kerwin’s class "The Geography of Food: Eating to Live and Living to Eat", we will examine the botanical origin, cultivation, and migration of the olive tree and discuss the steps required to make olive oil.  We will also taste some pretty nice oils!

Team Pizza Cookoff

Team Pizza
Last year moms, grandmothers and students combined their talent to create the best pizza. Now dads, granddads and students will team up at DU's Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism School to create specialty pizza using a secret ingredient. Each team will be supplied with two handmade pizza shells, a variety of popular and unique pizza toppings, and one secret ingredient. The team will be judged on taste and creativity in name and design. Following the competition, team members enjoy pizza and salad.

Ski Bus to Breckenridge
Whether you’re looking forward to a day in a mountain town or on the slopes, Breckenridge has as much to offer off the mountain as it does on any of its 155 trails. As the largest historic district in Colorado, the town of Breckenridge features a wide variety of shops, activities, culture and attractions to entertain.  Enjoy the scenic ride and the company of other DU families.  Visit the Breckenridge Ski Resort website for more information. www.breckenridge.com/  If you need to rent equipment, we recommend renting in the Denver area on Friday evening rather than waiting in line at the ski resort. The ski bus will depart from Lot 108 at 7:00am on Saturday, February 20th. Lot 108 is on Buchtel Blvd, about one block east of University Blvd. Please see our parking map by clicking here: www.parking.du.edu/documents/pdf/parking-map.pdf

PROJECT C.U.R.E. Tour and Project
In June 2009, 4 Denver University of Denver students travelled with a Project C.U.R.E. medical team to Lima and Pucusana Peru.  Their objective was to produce a documentary film about Project C.U.R.E.’s process.  The medical facility in Pucusana had received a container two months prior to the medical team arriving.  This documentary presents the Project C.U.R.E. story—from the collection to a container delivery, the volunteers making all this happen—and the medical team that provides free health care.  Your visit to Project C.U.R.E. will provide an avenue for you to experience a part of the work that results in a medical facility in some distant village receiving medical assistance.  You can help Project C.U.R.E. "Deliver Health and Hope to the World".  Join other DU families for a film, a guided tour of the warehouse, and participation in sorting. Visit www.projectcure.org for more information about PROJECT C.U.R.E.

Metech Recycling Tour
There are many compelling reasons to recycle obsolete electronic equipment, including protection of sensitive information and avoidance of environmental liability.
Research estimates that electronic waste accounts for 80 percent of American's toxic garbage and is growing exponentially. Electronic waste is a toxic threat to soil and water supplies worldwide.
Join us for an educational tour of Metech Recycling to see how they collect, carefully disassemble and shred or crush material, and distribute the end product to certified downstream partners for reprocessing and recycling into new products or raw materials.
