Each year, remarkable members of the University of Denver's student body, faculty and staff make significant contributions to our campus community. The Office of Student Activities recognizes these individuals and organizations at the annual Pioneer Awards Ceremony that takes place at the end of each academic year.

One student will be selected as the Outstanding Student, and two to four will be honored as Distinguished Students, for each class.

Outstanding Student Organization Award

This award was established in 2008-09 and will recognize student organizations who have made exceptional contributions to the DU Campus community. Self-nominations will be accepted from organizations wishing to be considered for this award. Nominations will also be accepted from students, faculty or staff who are not affiliated with the organization, but feel it is deserving of this recognition. Details of materials required for consideration can be found for this award under Nomination Forms.

Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award

This award was also established in 2008-09 and will recognize student organization advisors who have made outstanding contributions to the organization they work with. Nominations will be accepted from the president of any student organization wishing to have their advisor(s) considered for this honor.

Pioneer Award

Students completing their senior year, as well as faculty or staff members who have been at DU for five years or more, are eligible to be nominated for the Pioneer Award. This is one of the University of Denver's most prestigious awards and is given annually to one faculty member, one staff member, and up to 10 students who best exemplify the Pioneer spirit. Additionally, the Pioneer Award is presented to one student organization that best exemplifies the DU Pioneer Spirit in their efforts on campus and in the local community. It is the highest honor given to undergraduate students.

The Pioneer Award recognizes individuals or organizations who epitomize what it means to be a DU Pioneer over the duration of their undergraduate career, or service to the university as a faculty or staff member, or student organization. Recipients of the Pioneer Award will demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership, community service, campus involvement, strong character, and pride in the University. Nominees should also exemplify pioneering qualities, the attributes that demonstrate innovation, creativity and a unique perspective that impacts the DU Community.
