Theatre Ensemble

The University Theatre Ensemble is a student-run organization representing Majors, Minors, and interested students in the Theatre Department. The Ensemble, through its own democratic process, sends a voting member to the faculty meetings and assists in the selection of the season and guest directors. Ensemble members are highly valued and their unified voice helps shape Theatre Department policy.

Production and Shop Credit

Folks: Here's the e-mail I sent out a while back, explaining the change from Ensemble to Credits.

I am back, to discuss the evolution of Ensemble into Something Different. We are in the transition stage from Ensemble to a new, actual class that will replace Ensemble hours. Hopefully, this will help clear up some of the confusion.

THEN (pre-Academic Year 2012-2013)
Ensemble contracts used to be SHOP credit + SHOW credit in the same quarter. Which is hard. So we split it- you may take either a SHOP or SHOW in any quarter. If you would like to do both in a quarter, that's cool, too- it's just not required.

NOW (Academic Year 2012-2013)

SHOP credit
If you are a Sophomore, Junior or Senior, you need:
-SIX shop credits: 60 hours in a shop in one quarter counts as a credit.
-In the past, you were allowed to break up your credits into 30, 60 or 90 hour blocks. Count a 30 as .5 credit, 90 as a 1.5 credit.
-You need at least one credit in Scenic/Lighting, one credit in Costume.
-In the Fall of 2014, we will no longer offer .5 credits, and all the halfs will be rounded DOWN. Please finish off credits to make "wholes" this Winter or Spring.
-Next year, you will complete your remaining credits under the new system- more on that to follow.

If you are a first-year (or a new major in 2012-2103) you need:
-SIX shop credits: 60 hours in a shop in one quarter counts as a credit. Halfs are not allowed!
-You need at least one credit in Scenic/Lighting, one credit in Costume.
-Next year, you will complete your remaining credits under the new system- more on that to follow.

SHOW credit
-All Majors need FIVE credits.
-You may earn a credit by completing an assignment on a Department show (including the Musical) during a quarter.
-You may earn your credit as an performer, designer, or member of the run crew.
-To get the credit, you must sign up for the credit through Steven, and then attend all the relevant calls (rehearsals, workday, performances, strike)
-Shows completed as part of an previous Ensemble contract count towards your credits.
-Shows that you didn't take for Ensemble (pre 2012-2013) don't count. Sorry!

MINORS
-Minors should complete THREE SHOW credits and THREE SHOP credits.
-Please follow the Major guidelines above on how to complete your credits.

Here is the listing of currently completed Production and Shop credits, converted from previous Ensemble reports.
