The
Voice of the Prairie was produced on the University of Denver Theatre
Departments proscenium stage. The proscenium arch is 24' wide and
14' high. The grid height is 20' and there is approximately 6' of wing space
on both sides.
The Voice of The Prairie set consisted of a large gently
raked platform. This 20' wide platform extended through the proscenium
arch by 2'. Upstage right was a smaller raked platform which
was mainly used as the "broadcast studio". The floors
were planked and were backed by a 10'4" wall designed to
function as both interiors and exteriors. The set also included
one practical window, a door with a transom and 6 crates which
functioned for every piece of furniture needed in the production.
The lighting was based on 5 basic lighting areas, Three downstage,
one on the smaller platform and one more downstage of the door.
Each area was lit 6 instruments. The six lights included two
front lights one gelled with Pale Amber Gold (R09) and one with
Daylight Blue (R65). There were two lights from stage right at
different angles. One was gelled with No Color Pink (R33) and
one had no color. From stage left there was one light gelled
with Pale Gold (R08). In addition there was one backlight gelled
with a blue (R64A). Thirty mainly goboed instruments provided
the locations where different scenes were taking place.
