The Laramie ProjectBy the Tectonic Theatre Project

Part of the DU Theatre Staged Reading Series.
These special one-night-only performances allow our student actors and directors an opportunity to develop their skills.

In 1998 Matthew Shepard was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. The Laramie Project is a chronicle of the life of the town of Laramie in the year after the murder.

Both a play and a religious ritual, Church promises to help you ask (and begin to answer) the hard questions that keep you on your toes. Are you happy? Are you wasting time and energy on petty, unimportant concerns? Are you doing the most good for others that you possibly can? Through prayer requests, sermons, dance and song, four reverends guide the audience in an extended conversation about God and the purpose of life.

In the little village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman, tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

The universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
