Advising BasicsThe following resources center around the relationship between the advisor and the student, which is central to advising--more so even than information that passes from advisor to advisee. These resources have appeared in this newsletter before. In the context of advising students who are brand new to college, it's probably most helpful to remember just that: however many times we have been through this, this is the first time for the student. Many are the things they don't know, and they may be reluctant to ask for fear that everyone around them already knows. So ask questions, and encourage them to do the same. Most of these resources are from or related to the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).
